Monte Tapplar was our guest speaker today bringing us a message from God's word. The lesson came from Acts 5:1-11. This was the story of Ananias and his wife Sapphira. Monte explained to us that Hypocrisy is acting or being an actor. This lesson using Ananias as an example was pretending to be one person when that isn't you. Ananias was the one who sold some property and presented the money to the Apostles saying this was all they got in the sale. He was pretending that he was giving all he had made in the sale. When in fact he had made more. He was going for the reputation of a great giver when in fact he was not. If only he had spoke the truth of the gift was only a portion of the sale. Monte pointed out that Peter gave both Ananias and Sapphira a second chance to tell the truth. They failed the test by sticking with the lie. The lesson being here are we lying to ourselves or to others about what our character really is. Do we act like a Christian only in church. At work or else where would out Christian brothers and sisters be surprised at our conduct.
Ways to avoid this, Monte brought up James 4:7, Resist the devil, Submit to God. Keep the focus on God don't let the devil into your heart. Are you a genuine Christian? Humility helps keep the correct focus. Practice genuine righteousness in your life. Is your reputation more important than your character. Do you lie to keep the reputation. Monte reminded us that sometimes we don't break the rules but bend them instead. In reality that is still breaking the rules. I will finish by what I liked what Monte said near the end. We got to be whom God made us to be. Other wise we rob the glory from God. No one should want to rob God but I guess we all do. Let's not do that, ok?
