God in a Hot Spot
Updated: Dec 3, 2019
Robert Young was our guest speaker this week. The invitation has gone out to him to become our Minister. I'll let you know how it comes out.
The scripture he had read for this lesson was from Daniel 3:12-16. This is the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. They angered King Nebuchadnezzar and were thrown into the fire. I had the service of reading the scripture out load to the congregation. I have always had trouble with the pronunciation of those three names but this time I thought I nailed them.
Robert had 6 lessons from this story that I'll share with you.
1. Commitment will always be faced with controversy.
Robert referred to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as being young. Something I never thought about. If you do the Google on their age it list them as about being only 18 years old. It was their commitment to God that created controversy. This is what got them thrown into the fire. I mention the age because I can see myself and my friends at that age sticking
together like that. It bothers me slightly that at my age today, maybe I wouldn't
2. Compromise will always lead to conformity.
This is where I think I would end up, compromising. The young boys could have found a compromise but they did not. They could have worked something out with the king. Lesson here for me is do I compromise weekly my beliefs?
3.Christian Character put on a platform.
It was not the king who first noticed these young men not bowing down before the image but others. I think to myself that a certain word does seem to be thrown around these days by others. It doesn't mean to them what it means to me. I refuse to use it no matter how common it is to others. A reason why is that Christian Character I have. I just am happy that I am not thrown into a fire in this country for having a Christian Character.
4. Conflict will come as a result of combativeness.
We take Gods way over the others. Seem to rub people the wrong way. Because the young men followed Gods way over the other way they were thrown into the furnace. These days because we point out Gods way we Christians take some heat.
5.Christ can be counted on.
Have you read the scripture yet? While in the fire a fourth person was in there with the boys. The king says "the fourth is like the Son of God." In life Jesus Christ is with us. I have always wondered when life is tough do the non-believers still pray. Have you heard the expression there are no atheist in a fox hole?
6. Come out of the test collecting Glory for God.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire untouched by the fire at all. This amazes me because after sitting near a camp fire I can smell the smoke in my clothes. I have to wash them before that smell is gone. Once out the king praised God for saving these men. Daniel 3: 28 Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
Once again I see I am out of time for this must get on with my life. Let me leave you with the one more thing Robert said that I am taking with me. Somebody will always be looking at you. You are a Billboard at the side of the road for God.
Thanks for reading.
